SUMMARY:Community Screening Navigation
DESCRIPTION:Cancer prevention and risk reduction education and tools\nCommunity engagement is a framework that describes collaboration between researchers and community members throughout the research process. \nAt its core\, community-engaged research aims to create positive change by addressing real-world problems in collaboration with the communities affected by them. This is achieved through developing partnerships that mobilize resources\, influence systems and serve as catalysts for improving policies\, programs and practices. Steps can be taken toward these goals by: \n\n\nIncorporating lived experience insights from community members into research design\, interpretation and dissemination\nDesigning research for easy translation to real-world settings\nImproving health communication and reach of interventions\nBuilding greater trust between researchers and communities\nReach underserved and under-represented populations.\n\nCommunity-engaged research goes beyond traditional research methods by prioritizing community involvement\, empowerment and mutual learning. It fosters a sense of ownership and agency among community members\, leading to more relevant\, culturally responsive and sustainable outcomes. Active collaboration and dialogue foster a collective effort where diverse perspectives and knowledge are valued. Our Community Screening Navigation Program was launched to increase access to evidence-based cancer screenings\, with an initial focus on cervical cancer screening and HPV vaccine uptake in vulnerable populations. Beyond that\, we ensure a connection to needed care for all individuals. The care spans the continuum from screening through treatment and uses tailored communications\, community outreach and engagement\, and clinical navigation services. \n \nWe are working with local communities and clinics to increase access to high-quality cancer prevention\, detection and treatment services. The Community Screening Navigation team is an integral function of the Office of Community Outreach and Engagement that has long been part of its structure. The team now supports the office’s Mobile Cancer Screening Connector\, providing essential services underpinning its clinical\, outreach and educational missions.

SUMMARY:2021 JEPB-UNF Environmental Symposium
DESCRIPTION:We are excited to share that this highly anticipated event is coming soon!\nSave the date now – October 15\, 2021.  Tentative agenda is below.\n\nREGISTRATION IS NOW OPEN!\nThe event will be an in-person event as in the past.  Our planning team is busy at work organizing what will be another informative day filled with interesting sessions and time for networking.  See below for a tentative agenda for the day.  We hope to open registration in August.  We hope that you will be able to join us! \nCOVID-19 Update\nThe event planning team is aware of the concerns around the increased numbers associated with COVID-19.  We are monitoring the numbers closely.  At this time\, we are moing forward with our plans for in-person.  As we do with everyone\, we encourage all to consider receiving the vaccine.  We are attempting to structure the event to allow for maximum participation with as much distancing as is possible.  We will follow all protocols of the University Center that are in place.  Masks will be encouraged\, but are not mandated to attend.  While we would like to convert the event to virtual if the need should arise\, the infrastructure to do so in a short period of time is not there.  So\, if the need arises to cancel the event\, we will refund all registrations paid at that time.  We are exploring the option of keeping the registrations in place for the 2022 event as well. \nObjectives of the Symposium\nToo often\, community leaders focus on the issues of today\, instead of clearly visioning the future. As an aid to seeing the path to the future\, the City of Jacksonville’s Environmental Protection Board (EPB) and the University of North Florida Environmental Center annually present the Environmental Symposium.  The symposium brings together residents\, government agencies\, utilities and innovators in a forum designed to foster an atmosphere of cooperation in environmental achievement. In addition to opening\, lunch and closing general sessions\, there are breakout sessions on topics of interest.\nBackground and Information\nEach year the symposium presents a unique opportunity for members of the community to interact with the regulatory agencies responsible for developing and implementing environmental policy. Attendees have an opportunity to better understand environmental goals for our community. The symposium provides valuable opportunities for communication and helps to further the goal of protecting our limited natural resources and improving the quality of life in Northeast Florida.\n\n\nThe Environmental Protection Board\, in partnership with the St. Johns Riverkeeper\, annually hosts a water education festval on the first weekend in February.  This event provides attendees with information about our water resources and how we can protect and preserve them.  The museum is free to the public and there are plenty of exhibits and presentations.  Along with indoor activities\, one of the more popular features of the festival are the free guided boat tours of the St. Johns River.\nThis is a free family-friendly event focused on celebrating the connections between the arts and the world around us through an interactive museum. While exploring the Museum’s campus\, guests will enjoy live music from local musicians\, interactive booths and projects from environmentally conscious vendors and the opportunity to watch artists in action as they paint beautiful images using inspiration from the picturesque Cummer Gardens and St. Johns River. \nParticipants usually include:\nthe Cummer Museum’s Education Department\, Environmental Protection Board\, Florida Department of Environmental Protection\, Florida Yards & Neighborhoods\, Friends of Northeast Florida Community Gardens\, Fun 4 First Coast Kids\, GastroJax\, MOSH\, St. Johns Riverkeeper and others. \nThe event is traditionally held the first weekend in October. \n\nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER FOR THE 2021 SYMPOSIUM!

SUMMARY:New York National Publicity Summit
DESCRIPTION:Here’s your chance to get big-time national publicity by personally meeting top journalists and producers face-to-face\, behind closed doors at Steve Harrison’s… \n\n\n\n\nWhen it comes to getting exposure in America’s most influential media outlets\, it really is who you know. As any good PR person will tell you\, if you want major-league publicity there’s simply no substitute for having personal contacts at top shows and publications. \nUnfortunately\, it’s normally not easy to get busy editors and producers to return your phone calls\, let alone take the time to meet with you. That is\, until now. \nWe’ve put together a unique closed-door event where you can hear them reveal the secrets of getting coverage in their publications (or shows)\, then personally meet with them one-on-one to discuss the possibility of doing a story on you (or whatever it is you’re promoting). \n \n\n\n\nYou’ll be able to personally meet over 100 producers and journalists from America’s top media outlets. Previous attendees have been featured in major media like: \nABC’s The View… CNN… The Today Show… Parade… Fox News Channel… Dateline NBC… CBS’ 48 Hours… Family Circle… Parents… People Magazine… ABC Radio Network … Parenting… Health magazine… Time Magazine… Maxim… New York Post… Good Housekeeping… MSNBC… and many other top national media outlets.
