FALL ProTALKS Kicks Off the “Sidewalk-WALK

September 25, 2021 @ 8:00 am - 5:00 pm

The ‘Sidewalk-walk’ scheduled for Saturday, September 25th at 9 a.m. departing from the American Legion Post 197 on Benedict Road. During the luncheon guests collaborated to finalize route logistics, vendor requests and the coordination of reaching out to males who are at high risk for prostate cancer in the 32209, 32208 urban core neighborhoods.

Partners enjoyed a catered lunch and heard from speakers Dr. Lael Stieglitz of Baptist MD Anderson Cancer Center and Tom Farrington, Executive Director and Founder of Prostate Health Education Network (PHEN). In addition, the team heard from local PHEN representative, A.J. Merriwether a prostate cancer survivor and advocate for prostate cancer research outreach and clinical trials.

“We now have a team in Jacksonville that can focus on prostate awareness for black males.  We’re looking forward to the walk to educate black men on taking care of their overall health, getting their PSA test and not being afraid to reach out to their mates,” said Merriweather.
PROtalks (Prostate Research, Options, Opportunities and Outreach) is geared toward eliminating the prostate cancer disparities in the African American communities.

Prostate cancer is the leading cause of cancer among Black men; approximately one out of every five will be diagnosed with the disease. To register for the walk and more info email kfpfmg@gmail.com.
